Make Memorial Day Memorable - Thank a Veteran on May 30!

To cover the expenses for these services the 21st Ward Veterans Association will be holding a coin toss on Ridge Avenue from 10 am until 1 pm on Saturday May 21st and Friday May 27 from 5 pm until 7 pm. We thank everyone for their continued support.

21st Ward Veterans Association

Tuesday, May 10, 2011: The 21st Ward Veterans Association has announced that Memorial Day Services will be revised to add more time at local memorials.

Since this is our most solemn holiday we will continue to honor our fallen comrades by conducting Memorial services on May 30, 2011 according to the following schedule.

10:00 am Wissahickon war memorial. Located across from the Wissahickon Train Station.

11:00 am Korean Vietnam War memorials located at the Hattal Taylor VFW Post 333 Lyceum Avenue and Pechin Street.

12 Noon Leverington Cemetery Located at Lyceum Avenue and Ridge Avenue

1:00 pm Gorgas Park War Memorial.  Located Ridge Avenue and Hermitage Street

All services will include remarks by a local veteran,  placement of wreaths, and rifle salute to our fallen.

Following the services at Gorgas Park there will be a family style picnic.

This year we will be paying tribute to our Korean veterans who served in Korea between 1952 and 1955. All Korean veterans are encouraged to attend the Gorgas Park service and be recognized for their service.  Following the service we will have a VIP area to host our Korean veterans. All Korean veterans and their families will be our guests for the picnic. Food and soft drinks will be available to the public at reduced prices.

We strongly encourage all members of our community to attend and personally thank our Korean veterans for their service.

All Korean veterans are encouraged to contact the 21st Ward Veterans Association to provide their names, units and theater of operations. A commemorative  certificate will be presented to all pre-registered Korean veterans.

For those people who have worn or tattered American Flags the scouts will be collecting the flags during the service at Gorgas park. These flags will be formally retired at a future date.
