Brochure ImageIdentity theft, when someone steals your personal information (such as a bank account number or Social Security number) and poses as you, is a major, ever-growing concern.

At Firstrust, you can rest assured that your personal information is safeguarded and the maximum security is applied. However, despite our best efforts, identity theft cannot be completely prevented. Below are a few tips to help you minimize your risk of identity theft.

— Do not give out any personal information (such as account numbers, credit card numbers or your Social Security number) over the phone unless you initiated the contact and the person or organization requesting the information is reputable.

— Make sure when sending information over the Internet that the "lock" icon is displayed on the status bar.  It's a symbol that your information is secure during transmission. When sending e-mails or information via an unsecured vehicle, use secure browser software that encrypts or scrambles the information.

— Always keep your checks in a safe place. When you receive a check order, take stock to ensure that none have been stolen in transit. Report lost or stolen checks to your community banking office immediately.

— Guard your ATM/debit card Personal Identification Number (PIN) and receipts. If your ATM/debit card is lost or stolen, please contact Firstrust Customer Service at 800-220-BANK (2265).

— If your bank statements include suspicious transactions, investigate immediately by calling a Firstrust Banking Specialist at 800-220-BANK (2265).

— Before disposing of mail solicitations or financial documents (such as bank statements or invoices), shred or destroy them.

— Do not respond to unsolicited e-mails or letters, especially those from a foreign country requesting your assistance, or involving a notice that you have won a foreign lottery or sweepstake.

— Periodically order a copy of your credit report from each of these three credit reporting agencies and ensure its accuracy:

  • Equifax: 800-685-1111
  • Experian: 888-EXPERIAN
  • TransUnion: 800-916-8800
