Firstrust Bank Announces 2023 Summer Promotion Supporting Variety – The Children’s Charity

June 21, 2023

Firstrust pledges $25 for all new CDs opened to support summer camp for children with disabilities.

This summer, your savings can help send children and young adults with disabilities to summer camp. Firstrust Bank is launching a summer promotion with Variety – the Children’s Charity of Delaware Valley, to support Variety’s ACA accredited summer camp program for local families and children with disabilities.

Now through July 31, Firstrust will pledge a $25 donation for all new Certificates of Deposit (CD) opened. These donations will assist Variety in creating an enriching summer camp experience for kids with disabilities. In addition to the donation for each new CD, customers can also donate directly to Variety at any local Firstrust Bank branch.

“Firstrust is excited to continue supporting Variety and to offer this new promotion that allows our customers to help make a difference in the lives of children and young adults with disabilities,” said Tim Abell, CEO and President of Firstrust Bank. “Ordinary childhood experiences, like going to summer camp, should be accessible to all, but that’s sometimes out of reach for children with disabilities. With donations made through new CDs and from individuals at our branches, we can help provide more access for extraordinary kids.”

The summer CD promotion is just one piece of the bank’s longstanding relationship with Variety, which also includes career skills development, sponsorships and event volunteer support.

“Corporate supporters like Firstrust are critical to Variety, and we are grateful for the decades of support of Firstrust,” said Dominique Bernardo, CEO of Variety – the Children’s Charity of Delaware Valley. “We are excited to have Firstrust host a summer pop-up shop, which provides our high school vocational students an opportunity to build skills in the community.”

New this year, Firstrust will participate as a business site for Variety’s summer High School Vocational Training Program, which exposes young adults (21+) with disabilities to a wide range of career areas and allows them to receive vocational training in the community at local businesses. The camp programs for younger children serve as a pipeline into this intensive summer program.

Additionally, Firstrust will once again support Variety’s annual Annie Madden Sunshine Games, an event that gives children and youth with disabilities a full day to enjoy fun and games in an Olympic-style setting. Employees from Firstrust will volunteer at the Sunshine Games.

Firstrust has partnered with Variety since 1976 to raise funds and build awareness for Variety’s mission – to enrich the lives of children and young adults with disabilities through social, educational, and vocational programs that nurture independence and self-confidence, and prepare them for life.

Variety’s summer camp takes place each year in Worcester, PA, and at a satellite campus at Temple University. Campers ages 5-21 can experience day camp.  Fun and accessible activities such as swimming, baseball, basketball, arts and crafts, enjoying the outdoors and meeting new friends are all part of the camp experience.
