Checks can take a wild ride when left unprotected. Use digital payments to avoid unwanted ups and downs.

It’s time to put scammers in their place. At Firstrust Bank, we’re committed to helping you protect your account. We’ve joined with the American Bankers Association in a nationwide effort to raise awareness about check fraud and educate our customers to prevent them from falling victim to check scams.

Do You Practice Safe Checks?

Reports of check fraud have soared - they’ve nearly doubled since 2021, even though people are using fewer checks. Criminals are becoming more sophisticated and finding new ways to steal your hard-earned money, which is why Firstrust Bank is committed to helping you learn to use checks safely.

Here are some tips to protect yourself if you must write a check:

  1. Use Digital Payment Options - Consider switching to the Firstrust mobile app and online bill pay for fast, secure, and convenient transactions.
  2. Use Permanent Gel Pens - Opt for permanent ink when you must write a check. This type of ink is resistant to chemical alterations, making it more difficult for fraudsters to modify your check. Pick up a Firstrust SAFE 1NK pen at any of our branch locations.
  3.  Avoid Blank Spaces - Fill out every section of the check completely. Leaving blank spaces can allow criminals to add unauthorized information.
  4. Withhold Personal Information - Limit the amount of personal information you include on your checks. Avoid writing yourSocial Security number, driver’s license number, or other sensitive details.
  5. Review Accounts Regularly - Monitor your account activity online or through the Firstrust Bank mobile app to quickly detect any unauthorized transactions.
  6. Check Your Paid Checks - Regularly review your paid checks to ensure the endorsement, payee, and amount are correct. This helps identify any discrepancies early.

By following these steps, you can enhance the security of your check transactions and reduce the risk of fraud.

Stay secure. Stay vigilant.

And remember, when it comes to your personal information, it’s better to be cautious than to be sorry.
