Officially recognized by the House of Congress as one of the nation’s most prestigious awards, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor celebrates ā€œAmericans who are selflessly working for the betterment of the country and its citizens.ā€ Since 1986, the society has commemorated the spirit of individuals who immigrated to the United States during the Ellis Island era, who have shown their commitment to serving our nation professionally, culturally or civically.

ā€

ā€œReceiving the Ellis Island Medal of Honor is an incredibly humbling experience— for myself and as a representative of my family and Firstrust Bank,ā€ said Green. ā€œMy grandfather, Samuel A. Green, came to this country from Hungary in 1905, was processed through Ellis Island, with the dream of building a better life. He went on to found Firstrust Bank, driven by a desire to help others achieve the American Dream. To now be recognized with an award that honors the immigrant spirit and celebrates the contributions of those who have shaped this nation, is an honor that is deeply personal. I gratefully accept this award as a tribute to his vision, resilience, and enduring values.ā€

Past recipients of the award include eight United States Presidents, Supreme Court Justices William Rehnquist and Sandra Day O’Connor, Nobel Prize laureates Elie Wiesel and Malala Yousafzai, and the President of The World Bank Ajay Banga, among many others.

In addition to Green, this year’s recipients include Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody, Pfizer Chairman & CEO Dr. Albert Bourla, former U.S. Senator Norm Coleman, Fortune Media CEO Anastasia Nyrkovskaya, and many other accomplished physicians, educators, philanthropists and business leaders.
